The role of an RHO is to commission and undertake research in general areas for the nomination and management of heritage resources in Namibia and initiate measures for the protection and preservation of general heritage resources. My role also entails perusing and verifying heritage impact assessment (HIA) reports as part of the consent application process and periodically monitoring compliance with heritage consent conditions. I also participate in the secretarial work of committees and the administrative duties of the institution.

Technical skills, Report writing, Presentation, Attention to Detail, and Interpersonal Skills.

3. What qualifications or experience are often required for curatorial roles?

A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Heritage Conservation and Management, Heritage Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or Museum Studies.

4. What is a rewarding or unique aspect of working as a curator?

What is rewarding about working as an RHO is that I find pride in the fact that my efforts contribute towards the preservation of our heritage resources. You get to learn every day while on the job, as one is exposed to different duties within the sector, and research is so enticing as one discovers untold stories or sites worthy of being preserved. One also gets to travel nationally and internationally, and it is so rewarding as I get to network and get an opportunity to share and enhance my skills and knowledge; in addition, one gets to explore other heritage sites.
