Winnie Kereng

Winnie Kereng is an emerging Botswana-based archaeologist who completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Archaeology and French at the University of Botswana. Her academic training focused on African archaeology, heritage studies, material culture analysis, and archaeological theory within southern African contexts. She completed a dissertation examining historical occupations of Ntsweng through faunal analysis strengthening her expertise in research design, interpretation, and heritage analysis. Her practical training includes participation in an archaeological field school in Botswana, where she gained hands-on excavation and recording experience.

She has contributed to regional research as a Student Research Assistant with the Human Origins, Migration and Evolution Research in Mosselbay, South Africa, supporting zooarchaeological data analysis and broader human history studies. She also served as a Research Assistant at the Anker Research Institute, where she further developed skills in research coordination, documentation, and scholarly inquiry.

Winnie’s commitment to digital heritage led her to participate in a Digital Heritage Winter School in Munich, Germany, where she gained hands-on experience in photogrammetry and 3D cultural heritage documentation. She is particularly interested in the integration of digital technologies within African archaeological and heritage contexts to enhance preservation, accessibility, and representation.

Beyond field and research work, Winnie has demonstrated a commitment to communication and education. As a Setswana, English and French language tutor, she values multilingual engagement and cross-cultural dialogue.
