The 11th Annual SAASS Student Development Workshop

The Student Development Workshop (SDW) is a funded* annual skill training event hosted by the Southern African Archaeology Student Council (SAASC). Students will get the opportunity to learn new skills, network with others, present their research, and participate in interesting activities. The invitation is open to senior undergraduates and post-graduate students planning to or currently studying archaeology, palaeosciences and heritage studies. The workshop will be hosted in English.


Venue: Skukuza Science Leadership Initiative (SSLI) Campus, Skukuza, Kruger National Park, South Africa

Date: 6-10 December 2025

Valid passport (i.e., does not expire within six months of the travel date) required for non-South African participants


*Funded: Accommodation, meals and selected travel costs from a central location (Johannesburg or Mbombela) to the venue are provided.


NB the event is hosted in an area that is affected by Malaria (Where does malaria occur in South Africa and how can I prevent infection? | South African Government). Please ensure that you have noted this and that you are responsible for purchasing your own antimalarial medication and mosquito repellent. We will not be liable if you do not take these precautions.


NB we are in an area with wild animals. Please ensure that you are willing to act responsibly. We will not be responsible for any unruly behaviour and you will be asked to leave if you do not respect these guidelines.


If a participant chooses to arrive or stay for additional days then they will be responsible for any and all expenses and logistics outside of the workshop (i.e., transport to central location, additional meals and accomodation)
