Social Media Co-ordinator

Role Overview:

The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for managing and maintaining the Southern African Archaeology Student Society's (SAASS) online presence across various social media platforms. This role plays a crucial part in promoting SAASS initiatives, engaging with members and the wider community, and enhancing the organisation's visibility and brand awareness.

Our social media includes Instagram, Facebook, X, Bluesky, WhatsApp, SAASS Website, and LinkedIn​

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Content Creation and Curation:

    • Develop engaging and relevant content for SAASS's social media channels

    • Curate and share content related to archaeology news, research findings, industry updates, and SAASS activities to provide value to the audience.

  2. Community Engagement and Interaction:

    • Foster meaningful interactions and conversations with SAASS members, followers, and stakeholders through social media platforms, responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

    • Encourage user-generated content and participation by promoting hashtags, contests, polls, and other interactive features.

  3. Audience Growth and Outreach:

    • Implement strategies to increase SAASS's social media following and engagement, including targeted advertising, cross-promotion, and collaboration with relevant partners and influencers.

    • Identify and engage with key stakeholders, including students, academics, professionals, and organisations, to expand SAASS's reach and influence within the archaeological community.

  4. Analytics and Performance Tracking:

    • Monitor and analyse social media metrics, including reach, engagement, and conversion rates, to assess the effectiveness of content and campaigns and inform future strategies.

    • Prepare regular reports and insights on social media performance, trends, and audience demographics for presentation to the Council and other stakeholders.

  5. Brand Management and Reputation:

    • Ensure consistency and coherence in SAASS's brand messaging, visual identity, and tone of voice across all social media platforms.

    • Monitor online conversations and sentiment related to SAASS, proactively addressing any issues or concerns to maintain a positive reputation and build trust with the audience.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in social media platforms and tools, including scheduling, monitoring, and analytics software.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling and engaging content tailored to different platforms and audiences.

  • Creativity and innovation in content creation, with an eye for visual design and storytelling.

  • Analytical mindset, with the ability to interpret data and insights to drive informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

  • Previous experience in social media management, digital marketing, or communications roles is advantageous but not essential.
